How to Wash your Kinky Curly Weave

by Scott Marshall September 20, 2017

Kinky curly hair looks gorgeous and stunning. In fact, 40% of women wish their hair had more curls and texture.

But this type of hair requires high maintenance to maintain its form.

One of the major concerns with a kinky weave is tangling. The main reason is lack of moisture and proper care.

Quite strange and funny enough, a few people believe weaves are not to be washed as often as normal hair.

I mean who loves to walk around with dirty, smelly weaves…?

Washing Kinky Curly Weave

That being said; here is a simple way to wash kinky curly weave and to take proper care of them.

Washing, Shampooing, Conditioning & Drying

This is a general method for washing your curly hairs and is hassle free. You will need a few things before we start.

Things required

  • A comb.
  • Warm water directly from the shower or filled in a bathtub.
  • Moisturizing shampoo.
  • Hair conditioner.
  • Hair

Procedure

We’ll begin with straightening the weave. To do this, make two segments of your hair. One-half pushed over your chest and the other half flowing towards the back.

Grab the comb and gently comb into the tangles. Don’t try hard else you’ll break your hair.

Once untangled and straighten, bend your head forward and wet your hair with warm water in downward motion. It is better that you use the shower, else a bath tab would do the work as well.

The purpose here is to wet your hair and not completely soak them.

Now, apply the moisturizing shampoo in a downward motion. It will help remove dirt, oil, and dandruff from your hair.

Work for 5-10 minutes into the lather and make sure you are reaching every point of the weave. From bottom and towards the tips.

Rinse your hair until the shampoo has been removed.

After rinsing, apply the hair conditioner and leave it for 10 minutes before rinsing it again. Use a good conditioner.

Finally, rinse it thoroughly, so there is no shampoo or conditioner left in your hair.

Gently towel and then dry your hair with a drier. Make sure you dry them thoroughly else you’ll end up with smelly hair.

Tips For Better Maintenance

  • Wash your weave once a week.
  • Make sure that you keep your hair dry to avoid the smell.
  • Never sleep with your hair wet.
  • After swimming, use a clarifying shampoo and condition immediately.
  • Using your fingers, wet and oil daily. You can easily find some great hair oils form the market.
  • Condition your weave at least once in two weeks.
  • Do not use heat. This will vanish the curls and damage your overall hair.

How Often Should I Wash my Weave?

This depends more on the type of weave you are using. However, once a week seems the best practice to maintain their curl pattern.

The shampoo and conditioner you use for your weave must be of good quality. We would recommend using Herbal Essence shampoo and hair conditioner. It gives the best results.
